The American office-boy, who has long been the terror of his employers, is to be taken in hand by the New York Young Men’s Christian Associa tion. A training-school is to be opened for office- boys only, who will be taught not merely business arithmetic, the spelling of business English, com mercial geography, and so forth, but various systems of letter filing, card indexing, the use of the telephone, mechanical manifolding, and various duplicating machines and general office work. These lads, the “Telegraph” says, will also be taught that personal appearance, clean faces, clean boots, clean hands, neatness of carriage and ad dress, and politeness, are business assets. In consequence of serious disorders in Turkestan in the neighbourhood of the central Asiatic railway, a number of towns —among them Ashabad, Samarkand, and Tasch- kent—have been placed under “extraordinary pro tection.” Paris, October 16. According to the Petit Parisien the War Ministry has received a cable from the General commanding the South Oranian troops that the preparations for the Moroccan Holy war, which is to commence in the middle of November, are finished. Members of the Benigel tribe have stated that they have been urgently requested by all the tribes in the Fasilat district to join the movement. Paris, October 16. It is said that all the horse races arranged to taken place this year at Long- champs will be held at Champigny. The reports of the theft from the totalisator have been much exaggerated. The total loss is said to be about £40. The Race Committee has acquitted of all blame the starter, who was said to have been re sponsible for the occurrences. Cuxhaven, October 16. The special train con veying H. M. the King of Saxony arrived here this morning. Wingate, October 16. The remaining miners buried by the explosion, have been rescued.
