Se. Majestät und Se. königl. Hoheit unterhielten Sich kurze Zeit im König»zimmer mit den vorgenannten Herren und fuhren sodann unter entt ustastischen Hoch rufen der »ahlreichen Volksmenge nach dem königl. Palais, woselbst das Souper eingenommen wurde. Heute früh wurde Sr. Majestät eine Morgenmusik durch eine der Militärkapellen gebracht. ^8 Uhr fuhren die allerhöchsten und höchsten Herrschaften zur Jagd auf städtisches Revier. Nach der Rückkehr iw» königl. Palais findet Diner Statt, zu welchem Ihre Hoheiten der Prinz Alexander von Hessen und der Herzog Georg Alexander von Mecklenburg-Strelitz nebst ihrer Begleitung, sowie die Spitzen der Militär-, der königlichen und städtischen Behörden und der aka demische Senat Einladungen erhalten haben. Dresden, 30. Januar. Beide Lämmern hielten heute Sitzungen ab. Die Erste Kammer erthrilte auf Antrag ihrer dritten Deputation (Referent: Ritterguts besitzer Peltz) im Einklang mit der Zweiten Kammer dem LandtaaSauSschuß zu Verwaltung der Staats schulden rücksichtlich der von demselben über diese Ver waltung auf «die Jahre 1878 und 1879 abgelegten Rechnungen die Justtfication. Dem Berichte der De putation zufolge bel>ef sich der Rest sämmtlicher Staatsschulden des Königreichs Sachsen Ende des Jahres 1879 auf 675570475 M. Nominalbetrag; da aber iu dieser Summe 342 431300 M. 3procen- tige Rente mit inbegriffen ist und der Tour-werth dieser, nur durch Rückkauf tilgbarer Rente rund 80 4b beträgt, so beziffert sich der gegenwärtige Effecttvwerth der sächsischen Staatsschuld Ende 1879 auf 607084215 M. Sodann trat die Kammer in Beschlußfassung über da» königl. Decret, den Turnunterricht in der einfachen Volksschule betreffend, unter Aufgabe ihre» früher gefaßten Beschlusse», dem Votum der jenseitigen Kammer gegen 12 Stimmen bei, nach welchem die königl. Staat»regierung ermächtigt wird, die Einführung des Turnunterrichts in der einfachen Volksschule, jedoch nur an denjenigen Orten bis auf Weiteres Hinauszuschieber., wo sich die hierzu nöthlgen Einrichtungen nicht treffen lassen. Ein Antrag deS Rittergutsbesitzer» Seiler aus Festhaltung de» frühern Beschlusses der Ersten Kam mer wurde damit abgelehnt. Endlich beschloß die Kammer mit 21 gegen 19 Stimmen den Beitritt zu dem weitern Beschluß der Zweiten Kammer, die Staat»- regierung zu ersuchen, auf jedem ordentlichen Landtage über die Verbreitung de» Turnunterricht» in den einfachen Volksschulen der Ständevrrsammlung Mit- theilung zu machen. Die Zweite Kammer nahm nach längerer Debatte den Antrag de» Bicepräsidenten Streit an, welcher die Regierung um Erwägung ersucht, ob nicht eine Er höhung der von den Feuerversicherungsanstalten zu zahlenden Ort»seuerlöschkassenbeiträge thunlich sei, und übenoie» alsdann Petitionen um Errichtung vou StaatSgymnasien in Annaberg und Schneeberg und um Erhöhung der für die Unterhaltung der Realschule I. Ordnung in Borna gegenwärtig gewählten Staat». Unterstützung der StaatSregierung zur Kenntuißnahme. * Berlin, 28. Januar. Die „N. Pr. Ztg.* bringt folgendes beachtenSwerthc Dementi: Fortdauernd verbreitet ein Theil der Presse die auch von un» schon erwähnten Gerüchte, daß der hiesige kaiserl. russische Botschafter, Hr. v. Saburow, an Stelle de» angeblich »um Vicekanzler designirten Fürsten Lobanow alt Botschafter nach London kommen und den wirkt. Geh. Rath v. Herr hat soeben eine Loncertreise nach Süddeutschland sehr erfolgreich be endet. Die Pianistin spielte am 18. Januar im AbonnementSconeert deS Philharmonischen Vereins zu Freiburg in Baden, am 20. im fünften AbonnementS- concert im Eursaale zu Baden-Baden. In beiden Eoncerten errang sie sowohl durch die kleineren Ela- viervorträge als durch ihr Spiel de» großen Chopin- schen ToncertS für Clavier und Orchester in L-moII nachhaltigen und enthusiastischen Beifall. Die „Breis- gauer Zeitung* (Freiburg) vom 20. d. sagt: „Frau Stern löste ihre schwierige Aufgabe in hochvollendeter meisterhafter Weise. ES ist un» seit Jahren keine ebenso glanzvolle, mit so viel Ruhe und Sicherheit au»gefüyrte Leistung erinnerlich, die einen ebenso über wältigenden Eindruck auf un» gemacht hätte.* Am 27. wirkte die Künsterin in der Kammermusiksoiriä der Museum»tzesrllschaft in Frankfurt a. M. mit und spielte in derselben, mit großem Beisall und mehrfachem Her vorruf belohnt, die Schumann'sche Sonate in Vis-moll. Am 29. Januar endlich trat Frau Stern im Abonne- ment»concert der allgemeinen Musikgesellschaft zu Basel auf, wo sie da» ^-woII-Clavierconcert von Ed. Grieg und eine Reihe von kleineren Solostücken vortrug. Geographische Literatur. Eigenthümliche Strei- tigkeiten in der Kritik über den Werth der Stan- ley'jchen Forschungen brechen jetzt mehr und mehr lebhaft genug au». Stanley scheint mit echt amerika nischer Raschheit in seinen wissenschaftlichen Feststel lungen vorgegangen zu sein. Wie „Tb« ^ßbaaaaum" - « nahm die Versammlung zunächst »eontniß von dem Beschluss», mittelst dessen der NcichMag der zu Bern am » November 188l unterzeichneten Redlaudcouvention die »rr- safiungSmähig» Geaehmiauug rrtheilt hat. Schließlich wurdro der Entwurf rinrr Beiordnung über da» gewerbsmäßige verkaufen und Aeilhalte» von Petroleum, sowie mehrere Eingaben von Privaten den zuständigen Ausschüssen überMesr». — Die vereinigten AuSschüsfe de» Bunde»rath» für Zoll- und Steuerwesen und für Rechnung»wesen, sowie der Ausschuß für Zoll- und Steuerwesen hielten heute Sitzungen. — Ein Berichterstatter schreibt der „N. Pr. Ztg.*: Die Session de» BundeSrath» w,rd auch nach Schluß de- Reichstag» nicht unterbrochen werden, sondern fortdauern. — Der Reich-bag kann, wie demselben Blatte gemeldet wird, au» formellen Gründen erst am Montag geschlossen werden. Die Sitzung beginnt am Montag um 10 Uhr Vormittag», um die Berathungen de» Abgeordnetenhause» nicht zu stören. — Die ReichStagSbaucommijsion hat sich über die Jury bereit- schlüssig gemacht. ES treten der Lommission acht Sachverständige, theil» Architek ten, theil- Künstler hinzu. Die Namen der Gewähl ten werden vorläufig nicht genannt, da einige vermuth- lich ablehnen. Für diese treten dann Ersatzmänner ein, die auch bereit- gewählt worden sind. — Nach den bestehenden Vorschriften haben die Beamten der ausübenden Polizei bei den königl. und städtischen Polizeiverwaltungen im Dienste stet-Uniform zu tragen, wenn ihnen nicht ausnahmsweise da- Tragen von Livilkleidern aus dienstlichen Gründen besohlen oder gestattet ist. Da- Tragen der Uniform, wenn eS ord nungsmäßig geschieht, rst wesentlich dazu geeignet, da- persönliche Ansehen der betreffenden Beamten zu er höhen, und gewährt überdies den Vortheil, denselben im Verkehre mit dem Publicum die Pflichten ihrer Stellung al» Organe der Staatsverwaltung stets gegen wärtig zu halten. ES ist indeß die Wahrnehmung ge macht worden, bemerkt eine officiöse Notiz der „Nordd. Allg. Ztg.*, daß in manchen Städten, namentlich den mittleren und kleineren, Unterbeamte der executiven Polizei hinsichtlich einer sauberen und ordentlichen Dienstkleidung den an sie zu stellenden Ansprüchen nicht immer genügen. Der Minister de» Innern hat daher Veranlassung genommen, die Aufmerksamkeit der ProvinjialverwaltungSbehörden darauf zu lenken, wie wichtig e» ist, daß die polizeilichen Executivbeamten ihren Dienst in vorschriftsmäßiger und ordentlicher Dienstkleidung verrichten. * München, 28. Januar. Die Kammer der Abgeordneten erthrilte in ihrer heutigen Sitzung den Rechnungsnachweisungen zum Justizetat die An erkennung. Hierbei kehrte der Abg. Schcls, welcher so eben auS der Fraktion der „äußersten Rechten* au»- getreten ist, weil die Mitglieder der Fraction in der gestrigen Kammersitzung für das Postulat zur Errich tung eines Hochofen» in Amberg gestimmt und damit, nach seiner Ansicht, dem Ministerium ein Vertrauens votum gegeben haben, seinen principiellen Oppositions standpunkt hervor. Der StaatSminister v. Lutz habe ihm neulich ein Collegium über Geschmack gehalten; so viel Geschmack habe er noch, daß ihm mit Rücksicht aus die jüngsten Erfahrungen der Geschmack an po litischer Oppofiton vn gangen sei; er habe daher seine politische Opposition in einen feuerfesten Schrank ein gesperrt. Auf den Abg. Bucher (welcher jüngst aus der Fraction der Nichtextremen ausgeschlossen wurde) anspielend, bemerkt SchelS, es wäre am besten, dem selben Generalvollmacht zu Unterhandlungen mit dem Minister v. Lutz zu geben, vielleicht werde die Kam- mer dann bi» zum Charfreitag fertig. Referent Wal ter erwidert, der Abg. SchelS möge sorgen, daß ihm der feuerfeste Schrank nicht sammt seiner Opposition gestohlen werde. Karlsruhe, 28. Januar. (Schw. Merc.) In dem dem Landtage zugegangenen Dotationsentwurf für katholische Geistlicheift der frühere Revers beseitigt. Die Regierung geht dabei von der Ansicht au», daß Anlaß zu gesetzwidriger Renitenz nimmer vorliege. Oldenburg, 27. Januar. (Wes.-Ztg.) Der Land tag beschäftigte sich in seiner heutigen Sitzung zunächst mit der von der Eisenbahnverwaltung gesorderten Nachbewilllgung von 1K Million M. Eisenbahnbau berichtet, ist Mr. Pearson, einer der englischen Missio näre, au» Uganda zurückgekehrt und hat eine Menge geographischer Daten mitgrbracht, wie Breiten und Längen, eine Aufnahme der Umgebung von der Haupt stadt Rubaga und eine» Theile- der Westküste de» Blctoria Njanza, meteorologische Bestimmungen u.s.w. „Er lobt die allgemeine Genauigkeit von Stanley'» Werk sehr und fand fast alle seine Breiten richtig.* Wem soll man da aber glauben- Dr. Emin-Bey z. B schreibt (Petermann'- Mitth. 1880): „Da ich non wieder Papier besitze, will ich mich an eine Arbeit über Uganda machen. Stanley, für den ich gewiß die größte Hoch achtung habe, schrieb leider über Uganda so viel Fal sche», daß e» an der Zeit ist, die thatsächlichen Ver hältnisse darzulegen.* Wa» Stanley'» Breiten anlanat, so darf man wirklich gespannt sein, zu erfahren, ob sie über die von Speke den Sieg davontragen werden, wa» wft einstweilen bezweifeln; daß seine Längenbe stimmungen bester gar nicht ausgeführt wären, zeigt die Thalsache, daß er den Stanley-Pool nach seinen Beobachtungen um circa 1k Grad zu weit östlich an- geietzt hat. Aber Mr. Pearson selbst hat sich bereit» über Stanley ausgesprochen (Oburob lu- tslligenvar VI, October 1881): „Sonnabenv, 1. Ja nuar 1881. Rach dem Frühstück und Gebet gingen Mr. Mackav und ich nach der sranzösischen Mission (in Rubaga) und aßen dort. Die Missionäre waren sehr liebenswürdig, und der ganze Besuch verlief in angenehmer Weise. Ich guckte in Stanley'- Buch, eine französische Uebersetzung, ^1-« Oootiosnt * Die Bilder sind wunderbar; ich konnte keine Stelle wieder erkennen. Die Abbildung von Rubaga könnte sür jeden andern Platz dienen. Da» Bild von Mesa» kosten; e» war bereit» vor mehreren Jahren eine Summe von 2300000 M. nachbewllllgt worden, in- deß reichte dieselbe nicht, und so werden noch 1k Millionen M. nachverlangt; drr Gesammtaufwand für die Herstellung de» oldenburgischen Eisenbahnnetze» (einschließlich der Au»staltung drr preußischen Strecke Oldenburg Wilhelm»haven mit Betr>eb»material) stellt sich auf rund 34680000 M., so daß die Fehl beträge -wischen 9 und 10 Procent de» Gesammtauf- wände» au»machen. Da» Resultat der Debatte war dir Annahme de» Au»schußantrage», die verlangte Mehrforderung von 1k Million M. zu bewilligen 5. Wien, 29. Januar. Da» Herrenhaus des ReichSralhS wird erst in der nächsten Woche d»e Vor lage, betreffend die Errichtung der tschechischen Uni versität in Prag, in Berathung ziehen. Die An nahme drr Vorlage erscheint principiell gesichert, doch ist e» zweifelhaft, ob nicht auf die ursprüngliche Fassung de» Gesetzentwurf», wie sie von der Majorität de» Abgeordnetenhauses festgestellt wurde, zurückgegriffen werden wird, nachdem die sogenannte Mmelpartei, welche sür die Majorität im Herrenhause den Aus schlag giebt, in dieser Frage gespalten ist. — Wien wird binnen Kurzem, nachdem vr. v. Newald infolge de- bekannten ConflicteS mit dem Statthalter zurück- getreten ist, ein neue- Stadtoberhaupt bekommen. Die meiste Aussicht, gewählt zu werden, Hal der bisherige erste Bürgermelsterstellvertreter Eduard Uhl. — Be richten auS Konstantinopel zufolge, bestätigt eS sich, daß die Einbeziehung der Christen in die türkische Armee und die Erlassung einer für diesen Zweck nach preußischem Muster sestzustellenden RecrutirungSvor- schrift binnen Kurzem zu gewärtigen sei. Durch diese Maßregel wird erst die Gleichberechtigung der christ lichen mit der muhamedanischen Bevölkerung und die Aufhebung deS unwürdigen RajahverhältnisseS für erstere zur Wahrheit. Rom, 28. Januar. (Tel.) In der Deputirten- kammer wies in Beantwortung einer Interpellation Branca'S der Finanzminister Magliani nach, daß die gegenwärtige Krisis für den guten Erfolg der ZwangS- courSaufhebungSoperationen kein Hinderniß sein könne. Derselbe gab der größten Zuversicht auf die Besserung der finanziellen und wrrthschastlichen Verhältnisse Italiens Ausdruck. Haag, 28. Jonuar. (Tel.) In der Ersten Kam mer gab heute de Raadt, unter beifälliger Zustimmung des Hauses dem Wunsche Ausdruck, daß da» Cadinet wegen der Abiehnung deS Handelsvertrages aut Frank reich durch die Zweite Kammer seine Demission nicht geben möge. Der Minister van Lynden dankte für das dem Ministerium ausgesprochene Vertrauen, er klärte aber gleichseitig, daß er in Bezug auf die Folgen de» gestrigen Beschlusse» der Zweiten Kammer keiner lei Mtttheilungen machen könne. London, 27. Januar. (K. Ztg ) Der Gesetzent wurf zur Umgestaltung der Verwaltung der Stadt London wird nicht, wie bisher beabsichtigt wurde, zehn neue Gemeindekrelse schaffen, sondern die alten 39 Wahlbezirke beibehalten und auS ihnen eine einzige Gemeinde bilden unt einem Centralrath, in welchen jeder Bezirk 6 Mitglieder schickt, und einem Localrath von 26 Mitgliedern für jeden Bezirk. Die Wahl deS Lord Mayor» soll ganz dem Centralrathe überlassen bleiben, welcher seinerseits alle 3 Jahre zu erneuern sein wird. Es ist selbstverständlich, daß alle bisherigen Mitglieder de- Stadtroth» und die Aldermen der City dem neuen Lentralraihe angehören werden. — Die Regierung ist einer neuen ernsthaften und gefährlichen Verschwörung in Irland auf der Spur. Ihr Sitz liegt in den Grafschaften Limerick, Clare und Cork; ihre Mitglieder und ihre Organisation sind derartig, daß die Regierung sich sofort nach ihrer Entdeckung zu neuen Truppensendungen nach Irland bewogen fand. Demgemäß ging gestern da- zweite Bataillon Garde grenadiere unter Beseht des OberstlieutenantS Smith von Windsor nach Milfordhaven ab, um von dort nach Cork eingeschifft zu werden. Bukarest, 28. Januar. (Tel.) Nachdem Cogal- niceano in der gestrigen Sitzung der Deputirten- kammer da» Cabmet Brattano beschuldigt hatte, daß e» diplomatische Documente gesälscht hätte, beantragte heute der Premierminister, daß die Kammer zur Prü fung aller Dokumente und diplomatischen Lorrespon- devzen eine parlamentarische Enquete einsetze, welche berechtigt sein soll, alle jene Personen, welche, seitdem die liberale Partei am Ruder ist, an den öffentlichen Geschäften Theil genommen haben, vor ihre Schranken zu citiren. Die Kammer nahm den Antrag an und ernannte die Commission, welcher mehrere Mitglieder Amazonen machte mich stutzen. Ich bin fast 2 Jahre im Lande gewesen und habe nie von einem solchen Corp» gehört. Die Franzosen indessen sagen, da» Buch sei gut und einfach geschrieben.* Auf welcher Seite die Wahrheit liegt, wird sich ja wohl bald ergeben. Nicht- kann un- aber den Fortschritt m der Ersor- schung Afrika- mehr verdeutlichen, al- diese Thatsache, daß Stanley'- Buch 1878 erschien und schon 3 Jahre später sich die Kritik mit Erfolg zu regen beginnt. — Mit der vor Kurzem erschienenen 11. Lieferung von Nordenskjöld'S „Umsegelung Asien- und Europa» auf der Bega* (Verlag von F. A. Brockhau» in Leipzig) ist der erste Band diese» We.k» beendet; er enthält 31 Bogen, da» Portrait Nordenskjöld'» in Stahlstich, 206 Holzschnittrllustrationen und 7 Karten. E» ist, wie Richard Kiepert betont, ein im besten Sinne populäre» Werk, da» auf jeder Seite Zeugniß ablegt von dem hohen wissenschaftlichen Streben de» Autor», von seiner unvergleichlichen Erfahrung in ark tischen Dingen und seiner umfassenden Gelehrsamkeit. Eivgeflochten in die Schilderung der eigenen Erlebnisse und Thaten ist eine ziemlich ausführliche Geschichte der auf Entdeckung einer nordöstlichen Durchfahrt ge richteten Seereisen der Engländer, Holländer, Rusten und No, weger, welche durch Reproduct on alter Karten und Holzschnitte in interessantester Weise tllustrirt wird. Wenn die Rede auf zoologische, botanische, geologische und sonstige physikalische Dinge komm«, so benutzt die» Nordenskjöld regelmäßig, um au» dem reichen Schatze seiner in den arktischen Gewässern gesammelten Er fahrungen vielerlei dahin Bezügliche» mitzutheilen und die betreffende Erscheinung im Zusammenhang« zu er örtern. Reichen Zuwach» wird auch die Ethnologie der Opposition angehören. — Der Senat hat auf Antrag Gradisteano's gleichfall» eine solche EnquSte- commission ernannt. Washington, 28. Januar (Tel.) Eine telegra phische Depesche de» amerikanischen Spenaigftandten sür Chili und Peru, Trescott, an den Staat»secretär de» Aeußern, Frelinghuysen sagt, Chili habe die guten Dienste der Bereinigten Staaten angenommen und da durch eine Tonferenz Tre-cott'S mit irgend welcher provisorischen Regierung von Peru, sofern nicht Tal- deron dieselbe repräsentire, erleichtert. Die von Chili geforderten Friedensbedingungen beständen in der un bedingten Abtretung de» District» von Tarapaca an Chili und in der Zahlung einer Kriegsentschädigung von 20 Millionen Dollar», ratenweise binnen 16 Jahren zahlbar, während welcher Zeit Chili Arica be setzt halten werde. Im Falle die Kriegsentschädigung nicht gezahlt werde, gelte Arica für abgetreten an Chili. Außerdem werde Chili die Guanodepots von Lobo» nehmen. Wenn Peru die chilenischen Beding ungen nicht annimmt, wird Chili ein neue» Anerbieten freundschaftlicher Intervention der Vereinigten Staaten ablehnen. — Der „New-Dort-Herald* veröffentlicht eine Depesche au» Washington, der zufolge der bis herige Gesandte in Peru, Hurlbut, zurückberufen ist und sich bereit» aus dem Wege nach New-Aork be finden dürfte.
