This has been particularly the case ever since Wagula scored his first outstanding success with the large-scale posters for the eighth centenary cele- brations of the City of Graz. Further convincing proof of the artist’s unusual skill in this branch of art is afforded by his successful participation in forty German and foreign prize competitions when he carried off no fewer than twenty-five first prizes. Such success, however, was not easily won. Hanns Wagula is not one of those facile artists who can turn out work with amazing rapidity and to whom luck comes over night. Wagula has to wrestle doggedly with his problem until he finds the best solution. The work he does is executed with the minute care of the skilled craftsman and is eloquent of the seriousness with which he sets about it.
