The King and Queen of Spain have arrived at Sandringham on their visit to King Edward and Queen Alexandra. AMERICAN NEWS. New York, November 4. At midday a further 2 l /. 2 million dollars were ordered for import. Including this last sum, the amount of imported money has reached 32V 4 millions. Washington, November 4. After a conference held between President Roose velt and the Secretary of State, Mr. Root, the pro posed summoning of Congress to an Extraordinary Meeting, for the purpose of discussing the present financial crisis, was finally abandoned. New York, November 4. The New York Post reports that during the meeting of prominent business men, which, as al ready reported, took place on Sunday, a suggestion was made to support the Trust Company of America with an investment of five million dollars to be .deposited bn Wednesday, as Tuesday was a holiday, by a like sum if the directors would concede certain stipu lations. The New York Post also says there is every intention of placing a large sum at the disposal of the Lincoln Trust Company. The financiers take it for granted that both companies will agree to their conditions. The Globe reports that the transference of the Tennessee Coal, Iron and Railway Company to the United States Steel Corporation, will be one of the conditions imposed. New York, November 4. The Trust Company of America and the Lincoln Trust Company have opened for business again. New York, November 4. In Danville (Illinois) four thousand miners have gone on strike on account of dissatisfaction with re ference to wages. NEWS FROM FRANCE. Paris, November 4. It is reported from the Departments of Herault and Aude that serious floods have been caused by the unceasing rain. Paris, November 4. From Rheims it is reported that a criminal exami nation has been commenced of 12 emplpyes of the goods-station there, who have been suspected for some years of considerable thefts from the freight depot. WINE ADULTERATION IN FRANCE. Paris, November 5. During a general meeting of the Aude-Departe- ment Ferrault, a well known leader of the wine growers in the south of France, suggested that there should be special officials appointed in France to immediately .abolish the practice of adulterating wine. The Prefect said that the Government would gladly consider this proposition. MUTINY IN A MILITARY PRISON. Paris, November 5. A mutiny broke out in the Toulouse Military prison owing to the warders endeavouring to prevent a prisoner from escaping. The prisoners, about 50 in number, overpowered the keepers. The police were subsequently called in, to restore order. A MEETING OF SULTANS. Constantinople, November 4. The Sultan of Zanzibar had a meeting yesterday with Sultan Abdul Hamid who invited him to the Ramazan dinner which takes place today. Both Sultans were present at the marching past of the guards later on. An official report says that the Sultan of Zanzibar has come to personally testify to his friendship for Sultan Abdul Hamid. THE RUSSIAN DUMA. St. Petersburg, November 4. Further reports up to 7 o’clock state that 417 members of the Duma have been elected. Of these 193 are members of the Right and Monarchists, 124 Octobrists and Moderates, 4 members for the Peaceful Renewal, 35 Cadets, 14 Polish Nationalists, 5 Mahommedans, 11 Social Democrats, 25 of the Left and 2 Nondescripts. STRIKERS IN TORRE MAGGIORE. Rome, November 4. The Agenzia Stefani, reports of the disturbances in Torre Maggiore, Province of Foggia: Striking peasants tried to prevent non-strikers from going to work. Upon the arrival of the police the strikers threw stones and slightly injured five policemen. As the police were leading a prisoner away the strikers again stoned them and even fired revolver shots. At this the police also used their weapons with the result that a woman was hurt. ACCIDENT TO RECRUITS. During the enrolment of recruits for the navy, such a crowd of people gathered on a staircase that it broke down under the weight. About 60 people were precipitated to the ground. Fifteen were injured, two seriously. SPANISH TROOPS IN MOROCCO TO BE STRENGTHENED. Madrid, November 4. The Minister of the Exterior has reported to the Minister President, Sig. Maura, details concerning his journey to Paris. According to the Imparcial Sig. Allende Salazar said that M. Fallieres and M. Pichon had expressed hearty good will and thorough satisfaction at the entente existing between the two countries. “The entente,” added the Minister, “was of many years standing and was not subject to changes.” According to the Liberal, the confer ences in Paris will have the effect of influencing Spanish policy so that considerable additions will be made to the troops in Morocco. THE TOSELLIS IN LONDON. Berlin, November 5. The Berliner Zeitung reports at midday from London that Signor and Signorina Toselli have returned to England via Calais-Dover and arrived at Charing Cross at 5.15. Another lady accompanied them. DUKE OF SAXE-COBURG-GOTHA IN MUNICH. Munich, November 5. The Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha arrived this morning on a visit to the Prince-Regent and was met by the princes and dukes. A family lunch took place in the castle at midday. In the after noon there was a parade and banquet, and in the evening a gala theatrical performance. The Prince- Regent invested the Duke with the Order of St. Hubert, and honours were also bestowed upon the members of his suite.
