The other two officers, besides the general, are BERLIN an artillery major and a captain commanding a machine gun detachment. vAr Harvard University has invited the eminent jurist Professor Dr. Redlich of Vienna to lecture in Cam bridge next summer, the special subjects of his lectures to be selected later. Professor Redlich, who has accepted the invitation, is also a member of the Austrian diet. Mr. Theodore Spiering, the wellknown musical teacher, has left Berlin for Heppenheim an der Bergstrasse, near Heidelberg, where he will hold another summer course of six weeks for advanced students of the violin. As usual, Edinburgh University will arrange vacation courses this year, from the 29th of July till the 13th of August and from the 14th till the 28th of August, for students of German, French and English. This year a special feature of these vacation courses will be a series of lectures held by Professor Dr. Otto Hotzsch of the Posen Academy, on German culture, to foster good relations be tween England and Germany. An unknown friend of both countries and of Edinburgh University has donated the founds to carry out this scheme. Pro fessor Hotzsch, two years ago, was travelling in the United States lecturing on similar subjects. * Students of the Berlin “Handelshochschule” (Com mercial High School), under the leadership of Pro fessors Binz and Dunker, will visit England at the end of the present summer term, for about two to three weeks. The lady had disappeared, and it was not known what had be come of her until her body was found in the lake. As there is no ground whatever for suspecting that the deceased committed suicide, it is supposed that she must have gone for a walk on the road by the lake and accidentally fallen into the water. * The Van Ryn Gold Mines Estate Company Li mited has declared a dividend of 4 shillings per share (20 %) ^ or the y ear ending 30th instant; making, with the interim dividend of 3 shillings per share paid in January last, 7 shillings per share (35 %) f° r the year 1907/1908. * At the Morwitz Opera, in the Schiller Theater 0.» the rehearsals of the new piece “Konig fur einen Tag” (“Si j’etais Roi”)—a comic opera in three acts by A.
