Feuilleton. Aedigtrt »on Ott» Bauet. Refidenztheater. In der Nestroy'schen Gesang»- posie »Die Zwillinge " trat am 1. Juli der Komiker de» Carltheater» in Wien, Hr. Blasel mit leben digem Erfolg auf. Da» Stück arbeitet mit den herkömmlichen Situa- tion»effecten, die bei dem an Verwechselung und komischem Mißverständniß reichen ZwillmgSmotiv theatralisch abprobirt worden sind. Es handelt sich um eine leichtgeschürzte Handlung, die auch von Seiten der Darsteller jenen satten und derben Farbenaustrag verlo^ welcher bereit» vom Verfasser deS Stücke» in fast attrn Scenen angedeutet ist. Hr. Blasel ist mit einem behaglich komischen Talent auSgestattet und man muß die ungezwungene Natürlichkeit seine» Tone», den er nur selten chargirt, voll anerkennen. Auch im Coupletgesang zeichnete er sich durch solche Schlichtheit de» Vortrag» aus, die indeß eine wirksame malerische Accentuirung der eigent lichen Licht- und Brennpunkte keineswegs entbehrt. Man fühlt, daß er selbst Freude an dem Gegenstände hat und so steht er denn überall in der Darstellung seiner Doppelrolle der Zwillinge und seiner Aufgabe in einem intimen Berhältniß. London, Montag, 3. Joli. (Tel d. Dre»dn. Journ.) Wie die „Times" erfahren, find die Rüst ungen für eine eventuelle bewaffnete Einmischung Englands in Aegypten vnvmehr complet. Belgrad, Sonntag, 2. Juli, Abends. (W. T. B.) Der hentige Jahrestag der Unabhängig- keitserklärnug Serbiens wurde durch eine große Kirchenparade, Empfang im königl. Palais, Illu mination und Feuerwerk festlich begangen. Alexandrien, Montag, 3. Jnli. (Tel. d. DreSdn. Journ.) Wie „Reuter's Office" gemeldet wird, schlug im vorgestrigen Ministerrathe Arabi Bey ein Massenaufgebot der Bevölkerung vor; der Kinanzmivister und der Minister für öffent liche Arbeiten widersetzten sich diesem Vorschläge. ES ist noch keine Entscheidung darüber getroffen. Inzwischen werden die Befestigungsarbeiten fort gesetzt; einige Werke find armirt, die schweren Ge- schütze in der Richtung auf den Hafen ausgestellt. können, und nicht selten läßt e» der Gast an jener künstlerischen Sorgsamkeit fehlen, die ein gewählter Geschmack stet- herbeiführen wird. Den Ausdruck deS Komischen und Lächerlichen trifft dagegen Hr. Blasel mit einem richtigen Tastsinn für den vulgären Ge schmackssinn der weiteren Kreise. Diese- Wirken in den Rollen Kilian und Hermann Blau, sowie da» Ensemble der Posse selbst fand noch besonders durch Frl. Bendel (Roserl) und Hrn. Wil helmi (Peter) eine Unterstützung. O. B. verstoßen. Novelle von S. v. d. Horst. (Fortsetzung.) Miß Prodder lag ganz regungslos mit weit offenen Augen, immer den SuSdruck verzehrender Angst in allen ihren Zügen, aber sie sprach nicht, nur ein Mal in der Nacht flüsterte sie ein paar halbverständliche Worte: »Richt der TyphuS! — Bewahrel Nur vom Kommer, vom bittern Kummer. Wenn ich da» ein zige Weib auf Erden wäre, würde mich Otto — nicht lieben." Und so, ganz mit dem gewohnten engen Jdeen- krei» beschäftigt, fast kampflo», nur der übergroßen Schwäche erliegend, ging ihre Seele schon am dritten Tage hinüber in da» Schattenland, au» dem kein Weg zurückführt zur Erde. Roch im Sterben sahen die brechenden Augen der jungen Frau entgegen, noch Dresden, 3. Juli. Die französische Deputirtenkammer hat in den letzten beiden Wochen zwei weitere überaus wichtige Schritte auf der Bahn aethan, welche die Freidenker al» den Heiliweg zur Beglückung der Menschheit ver herrlichen. Wo dieser Weg über kurz oder lang hin führt, da» sagt un» der communistische Wegweiser mit der Losung al» Endziel: Diou, ui mnitre" — kein Gott, aber auch kein Herr soll im ZukunftSstaate die Menschheit mehr regieren. Beim Aufbau diese- gott- und herrenlosen „ZukunftSstaate-" sehen wir nun die »Baumeister" de» FreidenkerthumS den Umsturz gesellen der Commune verbrecherische Handlangerdienste leisten. Für der letzteren angestrebte Vernichtung jeder »Herrschaft" arbeiten erstere, bewußt oder unbewußt, nur zu sehr vor mit ihrer planmäßig verfolgten Ab schaffung jedcn GotteSglaubenS. Da hilft kein Leug nen; die vorliegenden Beweise sprechen zu deutlich. Die Debatte de» Gesetzentwurfs über Abschaffung deS religiösen Eides, welcher mit 264 gegen 154 Stimmen zur Annahme gelangte, zeigte, daß die Mehr heit der Abgeordneten von einem wahren Hasse gegen die Religion beseelt und Willens ist, den Kampf zwischen der christlichen und atheistischen Gesellschaft zu einem möglichst raschen Ende zu führen. Zu einer längern Erörterung gab der Paragraph Anlaß, welcher bestimmt, daß in den GerichtSsälen keine religiösen Bilder oder Embleme sich befinden dürfen. Der UnterstaatSsecretär der Justiz erklärte, die Regierung sei gegen diese Bestimmung. Man solle die Aus schmückung der Säle den Gericht-Personen überlassen. In den Pariser Gerichtsgebäuden befänden sich keine religiösen Bilder, aber sie könnten doch an anderen Orten wünschenSwerth sein. Man dürfe daS Volk, welche- an solchen Bildern keinen Anstoß nehme, nicht un- nöthig aufregen. Die Absicht der Regierung ist klar. Ihr bangt vor den Consequenzen deS eingeschlagenen Wege-. Sie weiß nur zu gut, daß die Mehrzahl deS Volke- den Lid al- eine religiöse Handlung betrachtet, und daß der Anblick religiöser Bilder an die Heiligkeit der Handlung mahnt. Die Deputirten waren aber con- sequent; mehrere Redner führten au-, daß die Ent fernung religiöser Embleme durch die Verweltlichung deS Eide- gefordert werde. Der betreffende Beschluß ist, wenn er Gesetzeskraft erlangt, zunächst ober auch eine ernstliche Gefahr für die menschliche Gesellschaft selbst; denn derselbe entzieht mit der bisherigen Berufung auf Gott einer Aussage vor Gericht jeden sittlichen Werth und stellt dadurch die heiligsten und wichtigsten Interessen in ernstliche Frage, weil die nunmehr vor geschriebene einfache »Versicherung auf Ehre und Ge wissen" für die Wahrheit deS Gesagten auch nicht die geringste Gewähr bietet. Recht treffend drückt sich hierüber ein klassischer Zeuge, Lamartine, wie folgt au«: »Entzieht man dem menschlichen Gewissen den Gedanken an Gott, so versinkt der Mensch in finstere Nacht, und nimmt blind Lüge für Wahrheit und Verbrechen für Tugend. Da- Gewissen ohne Gott ist ein Tribunal ohne Richter." Da- ist gut gesagt und die beste Verurtheilung der neuen Eidesformel; denn wer falsch schwört, hat keine Ehre und kein Gewissen, und wo kein Gott, giebt es auch keinen wahren Eid mehr. Auch die mit 281 gegen 206 Stimmen genehmigte Jnbetrachtnahme deS Antrags der äußersten Linken auf Expropriirung der infolge eines 1873 von der Versailler Nationalversammlung gesüßten Beschlusse» gestifteten und noch im Bau befindlichen Votivkirche zum Herzen Jesu auf dem Montmartreberge lägt erkennen, daß die Freidenker und die Communarden sich gegenseitig in die Hände arbeiten. Goblet, der Minister de» Innern, erinnerte daran, daß er seiner Zeit in Versailles mit gegen jene« Gesetz stimmte, welche» eine Herausforderung der Pariser und eine der letzte Hauch flüsterte ein: »Ich will genesen — genesen." Und jetzt, nach so vielen Tagen der Einsamkeit, so vielen Bildern deS Schrecken-, jetzt fühlte auch Anna, daß ihre Kräfte zu weichen begannen. Unter den braungelb und röthlich gefärbten Blättern deS Parks, im Strahl der milden Septembersonne verbrachte sie Wochen, ehe da- körperliche und seelische Gleichgewicht vollkommen wieder hergestellt war. In dieser Zett der inner» Einkehr erschien zum zweiten Male vor ihrem Geiste die bange Frage: »Was wird nun werden?" — Frau Scott hatte eine ansehnliche Summe geschickt, aber damit war doch nur die Mög lichkeit der Abreise festgrstellt, weiter nichts. Wohin sollte sie den müden Schritt lenken? Der Rector kam täglich zu ihr, er sprach schon davon, sie ganz in die früher gehabte Stellung wieder einzusetzen, er brachte sogar Grüße von seiner, durch den jähen Tod der Engländerin schwer betroffenen Frau, welche die gleichen freundlichen Wünsche hegte, aber Anna schüttelte doch dazu deu Kopf. Nein, nein, e« ging nicht — Purpurröthe überflog ihr lieb liche» Gesicht — eS ging nicht Und halb und halb schien der alte Mann daS zu erkennen, er berieth schon mit seinem Schützling über diese und jene Maßnahmen, dann aber kam er eine- Morgen- beinahe jugendlich schnell in Anna'- Zimmer gesprungen und ergriff ihre beiden Hände zugleich. Seine guten Augen glänzten vor Glück, seine Stimme verkündete ein Gottlob über da- andere. »Schnell, meine liebe Frau Werbek", rief er, »schnell, Sie müssen mich begleiten. E» ist Besuch dal" flagrante Verletzung de» öffentlichen Recht» gewesen sei Aber nun sei da» Grundstück der Kirche erwor ben und bezahlt und könne nur durch ein Gesetz ex- propriirt werden; die für den Bau der Kirche gemach- ten Schenkungen müßten dann zurückgegeben werden. Einen andern Bau auf dem Berge zu errichten, dazu fehle e» an Geldmitteln. (Contagrel: Man wird einen freien Platz errichten ) Auch dazu ist kein Bedürfniß vorhanden. Die Clericalen hätten bereit» 15 Millio nen blo» auf die Ausgrabung und da» Fundament verwendet und würden viele Mühe haben, da» Werk zu vollenden; wenn man ihnen diese Summe zurück erstatte so würden sie dieselbe zu einer noch weit wirk- samtrn Propaganda verwenden. Statt demonstrativer, solle man daher praktische Gesetze machen und nicht durch die Jnbetrachtnahme deS Antrag» eine Bahn beschreiten, auf der man, wie vorherzusehen sei, doch nicht zu einem Re sultat gelange. Der Berichterstatter Massip entgegnete, die Vorlage bezwecke, den Reklamationen, welche feiten deS GemeinderatheS gleich nach Erlaß deS Gesetze» von 1873 gegen dasselbe erhoben worden seien und noch erhoben würden, Befriedigung zu gewähren. Den freiwilligen Gebern von Fonds für den Kirchenbau sei man keine Rückerstattung schuldig. Der Bau sei eine dem Geiste der Pariser Bevölkerung feindselige Kundgebung, welche die Clericalen in ganz Frankreich zu einer geschäftlichen Ausbeutung deS religiösen Fa natismus benutzt hätten. DaS Pariser Volk wünsche an Stelle der Kirche wohl lieber einen Tempel der Gewissensfreiheit. Jedenfalls sei e» Pflicht, der Er- richtung solcher Asyle des Fanatismus Einhalt zu thun. Clemenceau, der Vertreter de» Stadttheil» Montmartre, betonte, daß, wie schon der Minister an erkannt, da» Gesetz von 1873 eine Herausforderung war; e» handle sich nun vorerst blo» darum, ein gegenthettige» Votum zu fassen; die Frage, wie der Bau zu verhindern, ohne die Staat»kaffe zu belasten, könne bei der Specialberathung erwogen werden. Jetzt liege nur die politische Frage vor, und da sei e» Pflicht eine» republikanischen Minister», mit der Kam mer energisch da» clericale Werk der Nationalversamm lung zu verwerfen. Ohne Zweifel ist e» völlig unnütz, heute noch dar über Erörterungen anzuftellen, ob die ultramontane Mehrheit von 1873 gut oder unrecht handelte, indem sie die Kirche zum Herzen Jesu auf dem Montmartre votirte. Die Frage, welche e» ohne Leidenschaft und Voreingenommenheit zu entscheiden galt, mußte viel mehr sein: ob e» angebracht ist, ein Gesetz zur Stunde aufzuheben, da» seit den 9 Jahren seiner Giltigkeit eine gewisse Reihe von materiellen Consequenzcn ge habt hat, denen nicht Rechnung zu tragen schwer mög lich sein dürfte. Dies scheint auch die Kammercom- mission eingesehen zu Haden, da sie wenigsten» be- merkt: daß all' den Gebern, die im Vertrauen auf da» Gesetz zum Bau der Kirche beigesteuert hätten, jeden falls eine Rückerstattung ihrer Beiträge vom Staate zu leisten sein würde. Diese Indemnität berechnet man aber auf 15 Millionen. DaS ist keine kleine Summe, und damit den Staatsschatz zu belasten, auf daß die Pariser Demokratie nicht ferner mehr die Kirche von Montmartre vor Augen habe, ist doch etwa» stark. Uebrigen» ist die Kirche noch gar sehr weit von der Vollendung entfernt, und nebenbei haben die Arbeiten dazu, die nun seit 9 Jahren auf Montmartre stattfin- den, am Ende den Fortschritten der Demokratie doch kaum viel geschadet. Tie Republik also, sollte man glauben, könnte dem Weiterbau mit Ruhe zusehen; ihr droht davon keine Gefahr. Doch die Wahrheit ist, daß der Kampf gegen die Kirche neue Nahrung braucht; die radikalen und anticlericalen Parteirancunen verlangen neue Genugthuungen. In erster Linie begeistert sich für die Niederreißung der Kirche zum Herzen Jesu die „Rspubliqurfranyaise". DaS Gambettistische Organ Die junge Frau erbleichte. »Für mich? — Meine Tante Scott?" »Für Siel" bestätigte er, die letzte Frage absicht lich überhörend. »Natürlich für Sie. Kommen Sie nur raschl" »Aber ich sollte noch einige Tage lang hier isolirt bleiben, Herr Rector! Im Ganzen einundzwanzig — heute ist eS erst der neunzehnte." »Thorheiten, alle- Thorheiten! — Die Uhr schlägt keinem Glücklichen!" Er zog sie an der Hand mit sich fort und durch den Garten bi» in sein eigne» Hau». Der alte „Fuchsbau" hatte so viele Durchgänge und Thorwege, daß man gar keine Straße zu berühren brauchte; e» ging auch im Laufschritt, und Anna kam mit glühen den Wangen in da» Wohnzimmer, wo sie ihre Tante au» London zu sehen erwartete. Aber der Rector schob sie vorwärt» bi» in sein ArbeitScabinet. „Dorthin, Kind, dorthin! — Solche Stunde braucht keinen Zeugen! — Gott segne Sie tausendmal!" Er schloß die Thür und Anna stand auf der Schnelle derselben, wie in einem Traume, einer holden seligen Täuschung befangen. Der Mann dort im Hinter gründe, mit schneeweißem Haar, mit der gebeugten kraftlosen Haltung und dem ernsten wehmüthigen Blick — war er wirklich ihr Vater? Derselbe, den sie al» stattlichen wohlconfervirten Fünfziger vor einigen Jah ren zuletzt gesehen? Wie diese Veränderung in ihr Herz griff! Wie sie die Brust zusammenschnüite und jeden Laut, selbst da» Schluchzen erstickte! Nur mit «»»gestreckten Händen vorwärt» gehend,
