Als Leiter der Malereiabtheilung wurde im Jahre 1818 der Maler Kersting angestellt, welcher eine freiere, kunstgemässe Behandlung der Malereien und den fast ertödteten Kunstsinn bei den Malern 7,u wecken verstand. In der plastischen Abtheilung der Gestaltung wurde unter Anderem die-Schablonen-Dreherei, das von Sevres ent lehnte Giess-Verfahren, ferner eine Ovaldrehmaschine eingetührt. Man suchte den Wünschen der Besteller auf Gegenstände aus den alten Formen und nach alter Manier gemalt möglichst entgegenzukommen und war auch bemüht, dem damaligen Geschmacke entsprechende neue Formen mit mehr oder weniger fut que temporaire, car eile n’offrait aucun resultat avantageux pour les affaires. Hans la plastique on introduisit entre autres une machine pour tourner les ovales, le tournassage ä l’aide de patrons et l’ouvrage de fonte de la porcelaine, emprunte ä Sevres. In 1816 thc two arcanists Köttig and Selbmann, who had studied the Chemical and technical branches at the academv of Freiberg, wcre engaged, and with them the aramist Holz- wig, chief of the laboratory, showed high merits in preparing colours. In 1818 the painter Kersting was employed as head of the painting branch. Fle knew how to introduce a freer and more artistic feeling of the painters, which had been almost lost. In the plastic branch the shaping by the aid or moulds and the porcclain-foundary-system, invented by Sevres, was tntroduced, as well as engines for the turning of oval shapes. 33
