INDIAN RAILWAY ACCIDENT. EIGHT KILLED. Lahore, October 24. Eight persons have been killed and twenty in jured in a collision between a Delhi-Lahore pas senger train and a goods train. ENGLISH MOTORIST SENTENCED. IMPRISONMENT AND £720 FINE. The trial took place at Liege on Wednesday of Mr. William Rowland, an English motorist, who was charged with having caused’ the death of a servant girl named Meurmans, at Liege on June 11 last. Mr. Rowland at the time was staying with friends at Aywaille, a small town near Spa, and had driven himself into Liege in his car. In the Boulevard d’Avroy the car knocked the girl down, and she was so badly injured that she died almost imme diately. It was alleged that the car was being driven at an excessive speed, having regard to the traffic in the thoroughfare, and that due care was not excercised. Mr. Rowland, however, asserted that the affair was an accident pure and simple, and that he knocked the girl down while endeavouring to avoid a collision with an electric car. The court found accused guilty, and he was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment. He was further ordered to pay a sum of £720 in damages. ACCIDENT TO A LINER. New York, October 25.
