H . k. Frenzei. It is probably due to the mutable nature of fashion that the style of fashion Illustration should change so quickly. Carl I Erickson, a Danish artist living in Paris, created a series of society pictures for Camel cigarette advertisements some • years ago. The elegance of the figures represented was expressed in an entirely original way, departing entirely from the style of fashion Illustration usual at the time. The editor of "Vogue” summoned Erickson to collaborate with him and since then we find such original illustrations of feminine fashion as those which we now reproduce, in the pages of this magazine. Erickson does not draw, he paints fashion. Often his pictures are mere sketches and an absolute contrast to the graphic style of fashion Illustration formerly prevalent. His technique has already inspired others; even his extraordinarily talented countrywoman, Carolyn Edmundson would never have developed such a ! | style as she has if there had never been an Erickson. His pictures are always vital, fresh in colouring and absolutelyi correct in every detail of fashion—and these are the principal virtues of this highly gifted artist.
