Fhs advertising is once again aware of its clear, con- crete content; it says what it means and makes no attempts at gentle persuasion of customers—its object is to take by storm. The surprise is the article itself, which is offered and takes the centre of the picture with monumental impressiveness. We find such a conventionalised shop-window effect, for instance, in the poster for the shoe firm of Wälder; here we see three different kinds of shoes, repre' sented with as much technical exactitude as in a children’s A.B.C. or a department störe catalogue. Here too it is pleasure in the object itself, in the beautiful form, which is to awaken the desire to buy. Charles Kuhn has absorbed inspiration from many sources. He is no stranger to Paris and abstract painting—that he understands so well how to ab- sorb and utilize all these impressions proves the surety of his instinct for commercial art. Full of the spirit of modernity is the poster for the famous Zürich restaurant "Zimmerleuten", portraitising the head Chef with inimitable effectiveness. This poster has already become classic in Switzerland. Let us take a look at his posters for Swiss spas and hotels.
