At the back of every advertisement must be a firm conviction of its success —or eise there is something wrong! The advertising department in any concern, whether it be industrial, commercial, agricultural or have to do with handicraft, must also have its effect upon the inward workings of the firm, or it is not fulfilling all its tasks. It is often just as necessary to impart the fresh spirit of a firm and justifiable optimism to a factory, a commercial Company or a bank and translate this into action as to increase the actual sales. An advertisement may be convincing, a poster arresting, a prospectus telling, a shop»window the cynosure of all eyes, an illuminated sign may dominate the night, an advertising film may cap» tivate the public, but if the persuasive power of the human element be not added to all these ex» cellent and necessary items, then the publicity campaign will lack the final complement of suc» cess. It is the highest happiness of mankind to ripen into an individuality — but individuality means more definite gain to the publicity man than to anyone eise, whether he be head of the advertis» ing department, publicity adviser, advertisement designer or text»writer, salesman or whatever func» tion he may fulfil in the wide field of publicity.
