So mannig fach und gut sind die Plakate, so unternehmungsfroh die Zeitungsanzeigen, so liebevoll und einfallsreich die Werbehefte. Und die Schaufenster? Eigentlich fesseln kaum irgendwo ungewöhnliche, eigenwillige Auslagen. Allenthalben scheint man sich mit einer prosaischen An häufung ruhig aufgebauter Waren zu begnügen. Diese Waren sagen nichts anderes, als daß sie eben an sich gut sind und daß sie keine weitere Betonung wollen. Welch ein Qualitätsstolz! Je vornehmer ein Laden ist, um so weniger zeigt er nach außen. Vielleicht ein ein sames Kleid, zwei elegische oder kecke Hüte, kurz: Much may be said in praise of London. Are not its posters of amazing variety, do not its newspaper ad- vertisements strike a note of bold enterprise and what could be more attractive in their superabundance of novel ideas than its Publicity pamphlets? And the shop- windows? Hardly anywhere do they attract the eye by an unusual, individual layout of wares. It would appear as if a prosaic collection of piled-up goods were sufficient. These wares simply suggest that their quality is good and that there is no need to emphasize the fact. Was there ever such pride in good quality! The more exclusive the shop, the less it displays in the
